First, build a yoga practice, which will release tension in the body, not to mention help you get in tune with your mind/body/breathing connection. It's therapeutic as all get out.
Next, try to meditate for a few minutes each day as a way to let your mind settle. Think of the inside of your head as a busy snow globe -- all you're doing is letting those little snowflakes (restless thoughts) settle. The more you do it the better you'll get. Eventually, you'll be able to sit for your allotted time without much thought interruption. Meditation will help build an inner calmness that you never thought was possible, not to mention help increase focus and mental clarity.
