Problems with the Standard American Diet

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | June 22, 2020

There’s a reason the acronym for the Standard American Diet is “SAD.” Many of the western diet staples include junk food, lots of red meat or processed meat, candies and sweets, processed carbs, soda, high-fat dairy products as well as foods laced with high fructose corn syrup.

The Standard American Diet is a big reason why America has a serious obesity problem. If your diet largely consists of junk, it’s time to rethink about what you’re putting in your body day in, day out.

First, make sure that you’re replacing sugary drinks and sodas with water. Drink half your body weight in ounces of water to make sure your body and brain function properly.

Eat plenty of clean, whole foods. Shop on the periphery aisles of the grocery store, where you can find fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid packaged and frozen foods. You can make an exception and purchase frozen veggies if you’re needing those in order to make quick veggie smoothies on the go. Yum!

When you’re out and about if the option is to eat junk food or wait until you get home to eat something better for you, then simply wait. Stop eating just for the sake of filling up on… something. Processed foods and foods high in sugar and complex carbohydrates bogs your digestive system down and causes serious inflammation, which can lead to all sorts of health problems.

Make sure that you also have your last meal at least 2 hours before you go to sleep, that way you can sleep more soundly, since your body won’t have to worry about digesting a meal you’ve just consumed.

Chiropractic treatment is a great way to compliment your new healthy journey as you deviate from the SAD diet. You’ll be surprised by how happy you’ll start to feel… pretty much right away! Contact Barton Chiropractic Today to learn more about how our treatments keep families happy and healthy.

The Many Benefits of Staying Hydrated

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | June 12, 2020

It’s astonishing how many Americans walk around each day not being properly hydrated. Instead of grabbing a large glass of water in the morning, many of us are eager to reach for that cup of coffee — it has water in it after all!

Barton Chiropractic Clinic would like to go over the health benefits of proper hydration, which means drinking about half our body weight in ounces of water each and every day. Proper hydration leads to a more functional body and to a better mindset.

Conversely, dehydration can seriously disrupt your performance and put you in a poor mood.

When our bodies are properly hydrated, this regulates body temperature, which will have you running at optimum capacity. Drinking plenty of water also helps lubricate the joints, which will have you feeling better as you move about the world.

Proper hydration also ensures that your body’s internal organs are functioning correctly as well.

If you don’t get the right amount of water in your body each day, your quality of sleep can end up diminishing, not to mention your quality of mood.

It’s funny how chiropractic adjustments can also help improve your mood, your nightly sleep, and the way your body functions on a day-to-day basis. Contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today to learn more about how our treatments can make your life better.

Chiropractic for Stress Management

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | June 8, 2020

It seems like we, as a society, are dealing with one traumatic event after another — which can create a lot of stress and anxiety. In many cases, our stress and anxiety can wreak havoc on our mental health, but stress can also create tension in the body that can lead to pain and injury.

Below, Barton Chiropractic Clinic goes over a few ways that chiropractic treatment helps patients deal with stress.

First, chiropractic treatment can help release tension in the body, which includes your muscles and joints. One simple adjustment can help with body aches and lack of flexibility. Chiropractic adjustments also help release tension that results in headaches.

Your spine is connected to your central nervous system, and spine misalignment can lead to mind/body communication issues. One chiropractic adjustment can help ensure that your brain is firing on all cylinders.

Lastly, chiropractic treatment has been shown to boost mood, reduce insomnia, and improve the GI system, which will help reduce your overall stress on a daily basis. Contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today to learn more about how our treatments can help you get through the most trying times with grace and ease.

3 Key Mindfulness Techniques

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | June 3, 2020

Deciding on topics to write about at a time like this, as a chiropractic care specialist, can be a challenge at times. But we here at Barton Chiropractic Clinic believe that times like these are crucial for spreading accurate and valuable information.

Right now, it might seem like the world has been experiencing turmoil after turmoil.  Whether that’s actually true or just our perceptions doesn’t actually matter, because what really matters is how we handle these events that occur in the world.

Getting right with ourselves has to do with being healthy, making healthy choices, and finding a way to achieve some sort of inner peace and serenity, even when the world seems to be more than a little out of sorts around us.

Below, Barton Chiropractic gives 3 key mindfulness techniques that will help you stay mentally well during this time.

1.) Build Your Meditation Practice

Taking 10 minutes out of each day to meditate is extremely beneficial for mental health and wellness. It might seem difficult to get “down to nothing” — as in thinking of nothing. Whenever you catch yourself in a familiar thought pattern, simply stop yourself without judgment and continue with your meditation. As you practice, you will get better at calming down the mind during this time and even throughout the rest of your day.

2.) Start Thinking of Others

Since you’re with yourself 24/7, shouldn’t you be given a break from that from time to time? Well, the only way to do that is to start investing in and thinking of others, perhaps even more than you think of yourself. By now, you should be kind of boring to yourself anyways, right? Watch your life begin to enrich, open up, and you’ll also find that your mind is healthier when you’re not indulging in selfishness.

3.) Consider Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic treatment might not seem like a path to mindfulness upon initial glance, but spinal adjustments can seriously improve mental cognition, helping your mind and body fire on all cylinders, which is sure to boost your mindfulness efforts at the same time.

How to Unlock More of Your Potential During Remote Work

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | May 20, 2020

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who are working from home as most of us shelter in place, it’s important that you get into a groove and show your employer you’re not one of the countless people who are slacking off while working from home.

On the contrary, you can actually show your employer that working from home has you getting more work done… and at a higher quality as well.

Below, Barton Chiropractic Clinic goes over a few tips that will help you get more out of yourself during COVID-19 closures.

Get Up Earlier

Getting up earlier will have you likely starting your morning off the way you like — maybe with a little exercise, some yoga, a light breakfast (if you’re not intermittent fasting), and some mindfulness exercises. Set the tone for your day right away, then swing into work mode and watch yourself feeling inspired and the opposite of sluggish.

Eat Clean

Eating clean, whole foods (and plenty of veggies) will help energize you throughout the day. Eating processed carbs and refined sugars will only gum up the works for you — and you’ll bog your body down with digesting complex foods, which will make you tired.

Pick the Right Soundtrack

Listen to classical, jazz, heavy metal — whatever gets your engines going when it comes to your work. Try to avoid having the television on, unless it’s part of your highly productive routine already.

Here’s another free suggestion: Try Chiropractic Treatment! At Barton Chiropractic Clinic we provide treatments that help optimize your body and brain, which will help you get more stuff done! Contact us today and let’s get started.

Tips to Regulate Tech Neck

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | May 15, 2020

If you’re using a smartphone or a smart device for an extended amount of time during work or at home — or while working from home for that matter — then you’ve likely experienced some side effects that have to do with tech neck, symptoms that you may or may not even be aware of.

Below, Barton Chiropractic Clinic goes over tech neck as well as a few ways to counteract the effects that staring at smart devices has on our neck, spine, and posture.

First, try stretching throughout the day. At the top or bottom of every hour, try to take about 5 minutes to get out of your seat and stretch your body. Your neck and spine will thank you for it!

Next, try to limit screen time. Try to only be on your computer for amount of time each day and counteract that time with good old fashioned exercise.

Instead of craning your neck to look down at your phone to text and surf the web, hold your phone slightly above your eye line and keep your chin slightly raised — we know this may look strange, but it’s best to stop looking down at your phone now to avoid having some serious neck and spine problems down the road.

Visiting your local chiropractic care specialist is another great way to release tension related to tech neck, helping your spine and other essential bodily systems function at optimum capacity. We’re only as healthy as our spines, after all. Contact Barton Chiropractic today to schedule your consultation if you’d like to learn more.

Establishing Your New Wellness Protocol

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | May 13, 2020

Now that we’re starting to see the COVID-19 curve begin to flatten out, it’s okay to start thinking about your own wellness protocol, since your immune system is now likely compromised by months spent in self-quarantine.

Those of us who are still wearing masks everywhere can begin to calm down a little bit. The people who should be wearing masks outside are now the sick and those who have a propensity to be affected by Coronavirus. It’s probably also okay to start meeting with someone you haven’t seen in awhile, as long as they’re low risk and have not been exposed to COVID-19. Human contact is essential in many ways, including the biological informational exchange that occurs. When we come into contact with people we help build each other’s biome, so our immune systems can be in great shape to ward off infection.

Start building your cardiovascular system again and get outdoors so you can get some Vitamin D, which you need in order to keep your body and immune system working properly.

If you have any questions about how our essential treatments can help facilitate your new wellness protocol and build your immune system at the same time, contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today to schedule your consultation.
