Treating Neck Tendonitis the Drug-Free Way

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | April 8, 2020

In this day and age, many of us are hard-pressed to identify a time in our recent lives where we took a day away from screens — whether it be the computer, TV, or our smartphones. As a result, many people out there suffer from neck tension, neck pain, and some even tendonitis in the neck.

Tendonitis has to due with tendons suffering from inflammation which generally comes about from overuse and failing to practice good posture.

Many athletes experience neck tendonitis, especially MMA fighters, who often spend time “in the clinch,” which really does a number on the neck. That’s probably why many professional MMA fighters have close relationships with their local chiropractors.

The good news is that there are things you can do at home to help treat neck pain and tendonitis. For one, start stretching in the morning and in the evening — even just 10 minutes each time will do your neck a tremendous amount of good.

Next, make sure that you limit excessive neck movement while you perform your own PT. Give yourself a week or two of limiting extraneous movement. Make sure you practice perfect posture and try to limit the amount of time you spend sitting during the day by standing.

Do minimal resistance exercises with your neck — make sure not to overdo it, because you’ll end up doing more harm than good. Slowly building your surrounding neck muscles will give you more support and provide pain relief.

Massage your neck — do it with your own hands, if you have to. There are tons of good products on the market, but make sure you consult with a professional to make some recommendations.

Chiropractic treatment is also a drug-free alternative to medication and surgery that will help treat your neck pain the all-natural way. Contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today to learn more.

Finding Your Best Coronavirus Defense Diet

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | April 3, 2020

When it comes to diets and individual’s bodies, not all are created equal. Some diets get good results for certain types of people, and certain people’s bodies respond better to certain types of food than others.

During this time of Coronavirus pandemic and paranoia, it’s important to dial in your nutrition regiment so it gets the results you’re looking for during this time.

First, you want to eat plenty of foods that will boost your immune system. Red peppers have even more Vitamin C than oranges if you can believe it, and none of the sugar.

You’ll want to stay away from foods with processed sugar, which will drive inflammation, which will actually compromise your immune system.

If you’re going to drink caffeine, try to stick with black coffee — and only drink one or two cups daily. Over-caffeinating will mess with your sleep and increase your anxiety — which is a horrible recipe during this time.

Ginger and turmeric root are two amazing ingredients to any diet that will improve circulation and reduce inflammation. Put them both in a veggie smoothie for a green rush of energy each morning.

Try to limit your cheat days to once per week, and have it come well-earned at the end of a week of making good choices for yourself, that way it comes with zero guilt.

Contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today if you have any questions about how to boost your health during this trying time. We’re here for anything you need.

Shelter In Place Week 2 Check-In

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | March 27, 2020

As millions of Americans in various cities begin to shelter in place, as week two of the COVID-19 pandemic finishes up, we’re starting to get a little clearer picture of what we can expect in the coming weeks.

For many of us who live in bigger cities, this means more rigorous enforcement of shelter in place regulations, meaning that most people are to stay at home and only venture out for essentials, such as groceries, gas, and medical treatment.

We’ve witnessed kids on Spring break defiantly refusing to give up their fun for the greater good. We’ve seen people hoarding toilet paper. But we’ve also seen people coming together to help those less fortunate. In many ways, the country is coming together in efforts to manufacture ventilators and provide food, shelter, and medical equipment for those in need.

As week two finishes up, it’s important to remember to keep a solid routine in these times. It’s that sort of discipline that will keep you productive and in good spirits, which will help you make the most of this time we have.

Make sure to get outside for a walk when you can — but make sure not to abuse your privilege. Keep away from others — remain six feet away from anyone outside of your household. Avoid having people over during this time. It’s for the benefit of everyone!

Many of us are getting notices that this will go on at least until April 19th, 2020, so it’s important for us all to stay positive. Contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today to learn more about how our treatments can help improve your immune system. Our office is available to those who need us. Please know that we’re doing everything required to keep our patients healthy and safe.

Below, Barton Chiropractic Clinic goes over a few ways to get your exercise in at home, which will help you reduce anxiety and stay in shape.

Kettlebells are also a great investment and there are countless lifts/throws you can do that will incorporate your core muscle group.

Cardio Indoors

Run in place, do jumping jacks, or jump ropes if you have a floor surface and space that permits. This way you can get a good cardio workout as well as a strength-training workout indoors.

Practicing Mindfulness at Home

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | March 18, 2020

As many Americans (over 70 million, as a matter of fact) head into their homes in order to reduce COVID-19 exposure and spread, it’s important to do what we can to ensure our bodies and minds get the attention they need. Below, Barton Chiropractic Clinic goes over a few ways to keep your mind in check during this time of quarantine.

 Don’t Hate, Meditate!

Instead of resisting the circumstances, embrace this free time you have and this new space to explore all sorts of mind-altering practices that you can take with you once we’re allowed outdoors again. Sit down and clear your mind for 10 minutes each day. If you’re feeling ambitious, try to build your way up to 20 minutes each day.

Mindfulness in the Morning

Right when you wake up is a great opportunity to sit and meditate or try to get on some sort of spiritual plane that will help guide your thoughts and actions throughout the day. Pray to a higher power or give thanks for your abundance. Think globally in terms of this. If you’re an American, you have so much more than 99% of the world.

Breathe Easy

Practicing deep breathing is a great way to calm yourself and lower your heart rate. You can especially use this tool during stressful times of crisis in order to bring light to any situation.

Chiropractic treatment is another great way to recalibrate the mind and body, and our treatments at Barton Chiropractic Clinic have been shown to reduce anxiety, boost your mood, and even help promote a good night of sleep. Contact us today to learn more about how our treatments can help you.

Practicing Safe and Respectful Social Distancing

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | March 13, 2020

During these uncertain times, you may have heard the term “Social Distancing” getting thrown around, which has to do with all of us doing our part to limit our exposure in an effort to stop the spread of The Coronavirus.

Social Distancing means staying away from highly populated high profile events and venues, not to mention practicing new standards of cleanliness.

If your job allows, try to work from home, especially while the virus is in full swing. Even if you’re younger in age, it’s important to do what you can to stay away from people who are of higher risks, such as the elderly and infants.

If you have children or a senior in your household, it’s important to keep their places of dwelling as clean as possible, not to mention limit personal touch with those who are more susceptible to this disease.

Staying away from the grocery store during high traffic times is another good idea. There might be more supplies first thing in the morning, too, which will set you up for success when it comes to hunkering down.

Try not to hoard supplies — we all have to stay healthy and safe during this time. If one person has to suffer based on you being more comfortable, this is not the way to go.

If you have the means to support local businesses, visit during low traffic times, or purchase gift cards online to show your support during these trying times.

At Barton Chiropractic Clinic we’re doing our part to stay safe and keep our patients healthy during sickness and in health. Contact us today to learn more about how our treatments can give your immune system an added boost.

Coronavirus Safety Tips

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | March 11, 2020

At Barton Chiropractic Clinic we’re in the business of keeping our patients healthy and well for the long haul, and a part of that means educating our patients and readership about best practices and habits to adopt during times of strife. With the Coronavirus in full swing across the globe, it’s important for each and every one of us to do our part to limit exposure and reduce the spread of this dangerous illness.

Below, Barton Chiropractic goes over a few tips to stay safe and healthy during this trying time.

Tip #1: Keep Your Hands Clean

Keep your hands off of surfaces that get used commonly by the public, such as door handles and handrails. If you must touch a surface commonly used, it’s important to wash your hands. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth in order to limit your own exposure to germs.

Tip #2: Make Healthy Choices

Eat plenty of greens and fruits to boost your immune system during these times. Stay away from junk food. Keep your cardio in check, because your respiratory system is hugely important. As we are finding now, viruses tend to affect those with poor respiratory systems, those who are obese, and those who are of inadequate health more frequently than those who are not.

Tip #3: Head in for a Chiropractic Tune-Up

Come into Barton Chiropractic for an adjustment, which has been shown to help your GI tract and immune system function better, which will help your body fight off infections more effectively.

If you’re feeling under the weather, make sure you stay at home. Stay away from large events where 100 or more people are gathering. If you have an older family member who is more at risk, try to keep your interactions with them over the phone until these riskier times have been put behind us. It’s time to weather the storm together. Contact Barton Chiropractic Clinic today if you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation.

Tendonitis Symptoms and Pain Relief Tips

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | February 24, 2020

Tendonitis is a condition that occurs when inflammation or irritation affects a tendon of the body, which is a thick, cord-like part of the body that joins muscle to bone.

Tendonitis Symptoms

Tendonitis symptoms include pain at the site of the tendon area, which can gradually build over time or suddenly explode with severity. The tendon in question will feel tense during any sort of movement, which will end up restricting functionality to some degree.

Ways to reduce tendonitis pain include resting your injured tendon. Hot/cold therapy can also be beneficial for pain relief, as well as avoiding any activities that could potentially aggravate the problem.

Chiropractic treatment is also an incredibly beneficial option when it comes to arthritis, tendonitis, whiplash, sciatica pain, nerve disorders, and much, much more. Tennis Elbow Pain Relief Tips

By Barton Chiropractic Clinic | February 21, 2020

When it comes to repetitive motion, those daily things we do during the week and on the weekends tend to start catching up with us when we get older. That’s what Tennis Elbow is, which occurs when the tendons joining at the forearm get struck with inflammation, which creates pain, discomfort, and can even lead to further injury and joint deterioration.

Tennis Elbow Doesn’t Just Happen to Athletes

You don’t have to be a tennis player to get tennis elbow, either. If you work at a car wash for 20 years, for instance, that repetitive circular motion will more than likely give you a case of tennis elbow over time.

Tennis Elbow Pain Relief Tips

One way to get rid of your tennis elbow pain is to engage in yoga. CBD also works wonders for inflammation-related pain relief. Hot/cold therapy can also do a great deal to alleviate tennis elbow pain without resorting to prescription medication.
